Moon Destroyers
48 Hour Film Project

For this project, we had just 48 hours to create a short film built around several required elements revealed to us on kickoff day. The film needed to feature a curator named Dan Kilmer, include a prop-a set of pliers and incorporate the line, “Don’t tell anyone.” We were also assigned a genre: undead. Wanting to push the concept further, we added a sci-fi twist by setting the story on the moon.
To bring the lunar environment to life, we combined practical miniatures with greenscreen work. We used models to create shots of the rocket and the landing sequence, giving the film a handmade, retro-sci-fi vibe that we were looking for. The moon surface scenes were filmed using a greenscreen setup, with miniatures and sand in the foreground to help set the illusion. Live-action shots with the astronauts were captured separately outdoors, then blended into the lunar environment during post-production.
Only A Lad
For this project, we took a song from Oingo Boingo’s studio album Only a Lad and created a narrative inspired directly by its lyrics. The goal was to translate the storytelling of the song into a visual sequence that not only followed the story but also matched its tone and energy.
Before filming, we developed a detailed storyboard that aligned each moment of the song with a corresponding visual beat, ensuring the pacing and imagery felt intentional and connected to the lyrics.
The color grading was carefully planned in advance. We aimed for an old-film aesthetic, building a look defined by a limited but by an expressive palette:
- Blue in the shadows
- Green in the midtones
- Red as an accent color representing Johnny
To push the film look even further, we added halation in the highlights, giving the glow and softness associated with vintage film stocks. To us, we think this really sold the look we envisioned that ended up making this video fully polished and a video we were proud of.

Byrd's Eye View
My dad and I took a to Skydive Midwest for a one on one interview with Eliot Byrd, a skydiver whose passion for the sport is matched by his drive to create aerial footage. Eliot takes his love for skydiving with a career dedicated to filming his team, capturing their jumps with precision.
He gave us walk through the gear he uses—explaining the cameras he carries in the sky, the specialized setups required for filming in such an unusual location. He also shared the techniques he relies on while free falling, from body positioning to framing methods that allow him to track other jumpers and capture smooth, dynamic shots.

I’m Tony Castro, a video editor and filmmaker. I blend practical tools with post-production techniques to create worlds and stories. As technology continues to evolve, I push myself to keep learning, while also remembering the roots of filmmaking. Without the things that came before, my passion for this craft wouldn’t be what it is today. I love using modern software to recreate old worlds my audience can step into, and I hope that comes across in my work.
I create all of my own assets, which has pushed me to learn every part of the process and keep everything original. Doing this deepens the connection between me and my audience, because everything they see comes directly from my imagination and effort.
My military background has given me a strong work ethic, the ability to stay open-minded in a team, the confidence to share my ideas, and the reliability to follow through. These strengths helped me work with Markey’s, an entertainment company, where I gained hands-on experience with stage equipment, audio systems, and lighting. Those experiences strengthened my technical skills—skills that carry over into every project I take on.

Iron Man
This project is my personal recreation of the Iron Man (2008) cave escape sequence, a scene I’ve dreamed of bringing to life ever since I built my own Iron Man suit years ago. Working with no budget, I challenged myself to find creative, resourceful ways to capture the same feelings from watching the original film.
To bring the scene together, I mixed practical techniques with at-home visual effects. All bullet impacts and muzzle flashes were created with VFX, and the cave’s computer monitor was replaced with an animated screen I designed specifically for this project. Some moments relied entirely on practical effects for a stunt where Iron Man punches a villain.
I also handled the color grading, researching the film’s original color grade, matching the overall tone and contrast as closely as possible. The aspect ratio was chosen to mirror the cinematic look of the 2008 movie.

The Cube
This was a fun little project built around capturing some close-up shots of a Rubik’s Cube and experimenting with color grading. I wanted to give it a “How It’s Made” kind of feel, but with my own twist. The color grade leaned into the cube’s bold, vibrant colors, while keeping skin tones natural and preventing the background from distracting from the motion of solving the cube.
